UAE Chapter sponsored Christmas celebration at Jubilee Mandiram

St.Gregorious college alumni association UAE chapter sponsored a colourful Christmas programme conducted by Marthomma Jubilee Mandiram committee on 17th December,2010 at Jubilee Mandiram chapel Kottarakara.
Rt. Rev Thomas Mar Themathios episcope inaugurated the celebration. Rev Daniel vargheese gave Christmas message. Prof John Kurakar, Vice president alumni association delivered keynote address and handover the donation of UAE chapter to Rt. Rev Thomas Marthoma. Rev Daniel Thomas, secretary of jubilee mandiram welcomed the gathering. Prof Jacob Vargheese Vadekkedom, secretary, Alumni association also participated on the occasion. More than 500 members actively participated. Various parish music teams presented the carol songs and group dance programme. The audience appreciated the role play on “Bethlehem Kalithozhuth” presented by the inmates of Jubilee mandiram.
The UAE chapter also sponsored delicious food for all members and presented gifts to the inmates of the Jubilee Mandiram.

AND SEND OFF FUNCTION OF SEVEN RETIRING PROFFESORS

The annual general body of the Alumni Association of St. Gregorios College, Kottarakara and send off function of seven retiring teachers held at Nadan Hall, Kottarakara on 30th March, 2010 at 10.30 am. Dr K.C Raju, principal presided over the function. Prof John Kurakar welcomed the members. Prof. John Kutty submitted the annual report and accounts.

TEARFUL TRIBUTE TO PROF K.S MATHEW


Prof K.S Mathew, 75, Retired Professor in physical Education, St Gregorios College, Kottarakara died in Chengannoor Hospital on Tuesday 2nd February 2010 following a massive heart attack. He is survived by his wife, Mary kutty (Rtd teacher) and sons Simon K. Mathew(Busines) Advocate Goerge Mathew.
He was the active member of the Kerala Sports Team and Kerala University Foot Ball team. He was the vice president of the district Volly Ball Association, president, Kaliyankal Valiyaveettil Kudumba yogam, Council Member of Marthoma Church. He was actively involved in the Congress Party in Aranmula Block.
The body was taken from his home at chengannoor. The funeral held at 2.30 pm at Marthoma Church Arattupuzha, near Chengannoor on thursday 4th Feb,2010.

St.Gregorios college History (Details)


ST.GREGORIOS COLLEGE HISTORY
St. Gregorios College takes its name from Saint Gregorios Parumala who is patron saint. The college was founded in 1964 by His Grace Mathews Mar Coorilose, the Bishop of Kollam diocese who later becomes His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Mathews II, the Catholicos of the East. The founding of the college was the successful realization of a long cherished dream
The foundation stone of the college was laid by His Grace Thoma Mar Dionysius, Metropolitan of Niranom Diocese at 10 am on Monday, 22 June, 1964 and the college was declared open on Monday, 6th July22 , 1964 by late lamented. His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Ougen I the erstwhile Catholicos. It was affiliated to the University of Kerala and had the community of St. George popularly known as Bethlehem Ashram, Chengamanadu as its sponsoring agency. Late Prof V.K Kurien was appointed as its first principal and the institution started functioning at first in make shift facilities but with permanent facilities under construction at its present site at pulamon, Kottarakara
In the beginning, the college had only Pre- Degree batches for Science, Commerce and Arts subjects with library and laboratory facilities. It was in 1976 that it became a first grade college with the introduction of degree courses in Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Zoology and Politics. More buildings were constructed to accommodate the students, the library was modernized and a new office block was constructed. Major milestones were achieved in the history of the college with the introduction of Post- Graduate courses Chemistry in 1995, Mathematics in 1998 and Physics in 1999. B.Sc Instrumentation, a UGC sponsored Vocational degree course, sanctioned for a period of five years, commenced in 1999 and the B.A Communicative English (restructured), the latest course sanctioned by the University commenced in 2001
The college in the meantime continued to expand and develop in its spheres. A spacious and modern office block was constructed in 2000 along with the Baselios Marthoma Mathews II Seminar Hall, which was inaugurated in 2000. Separate computer laboratories attached to Departments of Physics and Mathematics were inaugurated in January 2000 and in November 2000 respectively. A modern P.G Seminar Hall was constructed in Feb 2005
The latest acquisition by the college has been that of a common computer facility which were blessed and opened by His Holiness. The college office and the college library have since been computerized. The college during the course of its history achieved distinction by securing ranks at the University examinations at various courses
The college has various aims and objectives which can be broadly stated as Educational, Social and Moral. They are as follows:
1 To become an institution of higher learning open to all and founded on God’s purpose and His providence.
2 To become a source of light and life to many and blessing to the land.
3 To inculcate in the students the spirit of enquiry and the thirst for knowledge
4 To become an institution for moulding the students as responsible citizens who will integrate themselves in to the national fabric without prejudices and complexes.
5 To produce dedicated young men and women with proper leadership qualities and for social service commitment.
6 To inculcate a true spirit of tolerance and co-operation among those belonging to various communities, religions and ideologies
7 To foster in students love, brotherhood, moral uprightness, courage, service, sacrifice, discipline, nationalism and concern for the environment.
The Motto of the college is”study, serve and sanctify in God”
The College give equal importance to Academic and non Academic activities. Many Associations and clubs are active in our college. Tutorial system is helping better student-teacher relationship. Continuing Education unit organizes short term certificate courses under the directions of University. Alumini Association is very active in our college. Department associations are actively functioning. NCC plays a major role in shaping youth in to responsible and patriotic citizens of India. The National Service Scheme unit of the college is one of the leading units in Kerala. The aims of the Women’s study unit of our college are creating awareness among girls students on various aspects of social life. Book Club, Health Club and Tourism club are very active in our college. Population Education Program unit is one of the most active units of the university. Kerala Kavya Kala Sahithy is a Literary Association of the college.
Our College was accredited by the NAAC with B++ Grade during the year 2006

Prof John Kurakar Inaugurated the Chaptor. Mr Mathew. P. Babu, senior manager, K.S.F.E, presided over the first meeting Mr Sam Kurakar welcommed. Prof. John Kutty, Sri G. Balakrishnan Nair Sri P. Venu Gopalan Nair , Dr Thankamma, Sri Santhosh Jacob, sri Kottarakara Ponnachan, were spoke, Sri Benny Kutty expressed vote of thanks

TRIBUTE TO PROF GEORGE VARGHESE


TRIBUTE TO
PROF GEORGE VARGHESE

Prof George Varghese, Professor of St. Gregorios College, Kottarakara died on 16th January, 2010 due to the Heart failure. He was 52. He survived by his wife Aniamma( Teacher,GHSS, Daughter Reni varghese, Reshma Varghese, father G. George, Mother Dennama. The body was taken to St. Gregorios college ,Kottarakara on monday,18th January and was kept at his department hall for students and teachers to pay homage. Later in the after noon his body was brought to his home at Adoor Kilivayal. The funeral will be held at 10 am at Marthsmuni Orthodox church Kilivayal on Tuesday 19th January,2010.
Hundreds of Former students gathered at the college to pay their last respects. Alumni Association president described prof. George Varghese”s contribution for the students community was unforgettable. Alumni Association vice president said that Prof GeorgeVarghese was talented teacher who made many contributions to student community. The College Manager, principal and other professors have expressed grief over the sudden demise of the teacher.

St. Gregorios College Alumni Thiruvananthapuram Chapter conducted its 2nd Evening Conference on 9th Saturday January,2010 at J.J Hall ,Kesavadasapuram. Prof John Kurakar inaugurated the conference. Sri Mathew. P. Babu, Sr Manager, KSFE presided over the meeting. Chief Co-coordinator Sri Sam Kurakar, Director, Comrade Info systems welcomed the gathering. Dr.Shaji Thomas, Dr Smart V.John Sri. Benny Kutty.M ,Mintu Mathew, Sri Alexander Panicker, Sri. Santhosh Jacob were spoke on the conference. Self introduction session was very interesting and useful.
Tvm Chapter also conducted a arts programmes. Master Rahul, Kumari Sony, Binu Baby were actively participated on the various Arts prammes. The Chaptor selected the following members as the office bearers of the year 2010.
